As we approach the four year anniversary of the implementation of the BitLicense, industry leaders will discuss the current global regulatory landscape and what the future holds for the sector.
Fred Wilson has been a venture capitalist since 1987. He currently is a partner at Union Square Ventures and also founded Flatiron Partners. Fred has a Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering from MIT and an MBA from The Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. Fred is Chairman of the NYC Department of Education's CS4All Capital Campaign and is co-Chairman of Tech:NYC.
Jalak Jobanputra is Founding Partner of Future\Perfect Ventures, a venture capital fund in NYC focused on early stage investments in next generation technology including blockchain and machine learning. Before founding FPV in 2013, Jobanputra was the Director of Mobile Investments in Emerging Markets at Omidyar Network. She was previously Senior Vice President at the New York City Investment Fund (NYCIF), a private economic development fund, and while there, she spearheaded the formation NYCSeed in 2008, and helped launch the FinTech Innovation Lab, which has since been replicated in London and Hong Kong.
Dhawal Sharma is the General Counsel of Tagomi. Dhawal was Vice President in the Compliance Division at Goldman Sachs and previously served as Assistant Attorney General in the Investor Protection Bureau at the New York Attorney General’s Office. Prior to that, he served as Special Counsel at SEC within the Division of Trading and Markets.
Paul Watkins is the Director for the Office of Innovation at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Watkins comes to the Bureau from the Arizona Office of the Attorney General, where he was in charge of the office’s fintech initiatives. He managed the FinTech Regulatory Sandbox, the first state fintech sandbox in the country, which allows a company limited access to the marketplace in exchange for relaxing some regulations. Watkins was also the Chief Counsel for the Civil Litigation Division. In that role, he managed the state’s litigation in areas such as consumer fraud, antitrust, and civil rights.
Kimberly Quinones is Executive Director of the NYC Blockchain Center. She has held senior positions in finance, government and non-profits, most recently as CFO for the Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation, the New York State authority operating Roosevelt Island in New York City, the home of Cornell Tech. In a previous administration, Ms. Quinones worked with the NYC Deputy Mayor for Economic Development and Planning, where she represented the Mayor’s Office on the boards of the NYC Economic Development Corporation and the NYC Industrial Development Authority.
